VT Artsalon has been dedicated in art field for the past 9 years, and will be provided in more professional, perspicacity and academic content to audiences. At the same time to move to our next step, the 8 members of VT had choose their recommended artists as an exhibition. There are 10 artists got recommendation for this exhibition, and they works are in various forms, which includes painting, photography, device, video and performance art. The artists reply their inner body’s consciousness language through the daily observation, to co-construct and express the daily life that surrounded in our life with daily observation life and labor form.

CHEN Hsien-Yu made a interactive mechanical device to have more interaction with the audiences. Huang Shun-Ting discussed the absurd in art mechanism through the relationship between paintings and products. TZENG Yi-Hsin repainted the waste and household products, using humour and funny way to composed the familiar objects in our daily life such as trade mark and bottles in her creation. YE Sian-Jie used 3D glasses to make the surface of the work itself keep reflecting the audiences’ state. However, TSAI Pou-Ching started his works from physical sensation; and challenged intuitive feelings of Ideology with the transformation of the body image. CHIA Chien-Ju tried to use the normal objects in our life into works of process in her creation, which makes the objects are not only just giving single visual concept to the audiences, but to create more vivid vocabularies about life experience.

LIN Wei-Lung used his body with boring and repeating labor movie, which makes his body constantly conceal in this shape. AARON HORSE used multi-media to puzzled the landscape in the daily life and respond the relationship between his works and the objects. LIAO Chao-Hao named his works theme with Taiwan’s geology environment and relative vegetation cover slope protection, terrace wall, wave breaker block. He used soft sculpture shaping hard structure, turned the original and ecological landscape out-door space object back into handmade artificial sculpture genre. SHAN Kai-Ti tended to go through alienation and turned her body into a product on the market waiting for a good price. In the commercialize of structure, the mental of us being watched, made we decorate ourselves in order to let us reach to the best look, and expecting the sight from the audience.

My early work is a series of videos that base on my own body and that is the base of my art concept. Over the last few years, I stopped using videography as my execution method and started my performance about the relationship of body and substance without videotaping it. The processes of my performances are usually the combination of delayed, repeated and isolated actions. Under the long period of time with the action mentioned above, I begin to think about the possibility of body itself as a memory and also as a way of observing the world.

Apart from my own works, I started to film documentaries for artists who are in the process of creating their works from 2012. Through the camera lens, I captured the state of mind of artists and discovered the visual possibility for art events and exhibitions. By performing, filming and traveling, I continue to explore the cultural landscape of Asia and my imagination of body.

I put myself into a acrylic box and keep scratching the box. By repeated action, the body merged with the box and become a symbol of laboring.

SHAN, Kai-Ti

The English term "Still Life" was derived from the Dutch "stilleven", meaning still and calm life, the French called it "nature morte" refers to the nature of death. 16th-century Dutch painters began to discuss the essence of life through the painting of still life, in the very beginning still life painting wish to preserve objects that cannot always be kept, most common will be objects such as flowers, fruit ... etc. Since then symbols of life and time began to appear still life paintings, discussing the shortness of life and the concept that all things are destined to demise, including objects such as the hourglass, watch, or burned candles, decayed and withered flowers and fruits, skull, animal carcasses, opened books, jewelry. This concept quickly developed into an independent subject, "vanitas" in English; from the Latin word "vanitas", meaning "meaninglessness of life". The word is drawn from the biblical book of "Ecclesiastes" in 1: 2 chapters had used this word - "vanity of vanities, all is vanity"

Becoming a still life, I felt a great peace of mind, because whatever values or judgments will all eventually enter an inevitable nothingness.

In the "Still Life" series of works, I disguise a certain part of my body as ingredients, deliberately creating packaging and consumer situations, and without any post manipulation of the image, through the third-person perspective, separating and placing the parts of the body as "object." During the process attempts to satisfy the current general aesthetic values, I realized that these are all means of materialization, seeking recognition in the consumer society in an attempt to save every beautiful moment, but only to fall in vain as its decline and disappearance cannot be avoided.

TZENG, Yi-Hsin

The inspiration for this piece comes mainly from one Chinese fairy tale. There is a poor boy called Ma-Liang, who loves painting. One day, Ma-Liang accidentally receives a gift from a god: a magic paint brush. This brush turns whatever he paints into real life. Ma starts to use this magic brush to help people in need. Meanwhile, his magical ability catches the attention of a greedy local official who forces the boy to paint many valuable items. Eventually Ma paints a golden tree growing up to an isolated island in order to seduce the official. When the mayor and his entourage boards the ship to the island, Mr. Ma creates a violent storm for their journey. Henceforth, Ma-Liang could focus on using the magic paint brush to help people.
For this exhibition, I am attempting to create a convenience store which combines painting and service together. I am trying to portray the desire and want of human beings, as well as selling various simulation products which were created by my magic brush. Under the appearance of beauty and reality, there is no practical function except for satisfying the audience’s needs. I prefer to use massive modern industrial material such as plastic and mundane ready-mades. Through the act of remaking these sugar-coated objects, I satarize the disability and dishonesty of consumption culture.

The works in this exhibition are Indestructible Object, Gaze Above the Cloud, That Would Be Funny, If It Weren’t So Sad. These three works include the element of words like political slogans; in  two of the works, the using of anagrams, words with the same letters, transforms the original meaning of the word and deliberately misuse the red-blue 3D glasses to interfere with the viewer’s direct reading of the word. Among the works, the political contexts of “Taiwan-China” and “Israel-Palestine” are put together. In the process of cross-reading and interpreting, the virtuality and entertainment of the 3D effect continuously defend the historical weight behind the words.

Through manipulation of 3D and political metaphor, the artist intends to create an allegory. The contrasts include “split/completeness”, “seriousness/flippancy” and “rejection/invitation” and these perceptions of conflicts gather together into a deadlock teeming with frustrations, then squeezing out the space of sensibility which is open to imagine and arousing the reflection toward political dilemma of the contemporary people.

Chia Chien-ju

The length of my hair is just to reach my shoulder, and the amount of it is just higher than the average. I am used to washing my hair and drying it every day. After all these process is done and feeling fresh, I would gaze at the floor with my fallen hair being scattered. The hair seems like a pet belonged to me. In this sense, I tend to represent the shape of what it was, and then I made a hair sphere which is fuzzy and fluffy as a life form of lifeless.

As an artist, I reform the objects to represent the daily-life scenes, in order to create a semi-real life scene, as well as creating a quantum gap of perspective reality. I implicitly distort the perception of life, and include unsteadily elements for creating the sense of humor.

“A life form of lifeless” is the implicit subject for my work which tends to escape the state of personification. I expect the life form of my work is generated from the interaction between the artist and audience. The work that reflects the life experience could be evolved from the existence to a sense of life.

The work exhibited for the first time in 2014, the hair was only from myself, whereas for the second time, there was hair from five people. I plan to let it grow by the times of each exhibition until the height/scale of a house, in order to create a para-organic life form.

In this piece, I appropriated a classical form from the Minimalism, with several YG underpants sorted by size in descending order, one lean against another. To me, the Minimalism art works are extremely calm and restraint and the appropriation of the form make this work have an essential of cold and warm, which creates a longing force disturbing the atmosphere abstinence. The chemistry reaction in this work drifting between the value of desire and abstinence, sublime and filth that links our imagination toward intimate objects

CHENG, Hsien-Yu

HOBO
“Giving money away is to have a peaceful moment.” This work reflects on the relation between those who live on the street and those who live in such busy cities. Sometimes I think people don’t want to be disturb, so they give money to hobos. Sometimes they do care about them, but sometimes they don’t. I trying to emulate this kind of situation into this work for representing the image of that moment.

Afterlife Ver.2.0
“Life is just simple as life, it's nothing about size, surface, scale…… ”
In this Project I try to reduce and magnify the scale of life, let this work can collectlife by itself and transfer into a virtual environment to create a kind of afterlife. Thevirtual environment is a game called “life invader”. On the device, there is a displayshows the amount of life collected by installation, and this amount will be the hero’s life of this game. So if audience plays the game and lose the life of hero, the number shows on the display will be decreased. When the number turns to “0”, that means the installation itself have to collect new life for continuing the game.
